Mule tape as straps

I'm more worried about the loose weave of the mule tape getting snagged by the bark than the actual pressure on the tree, so will attach it carefully for the sake of the mule tape and the bark.

True! While the mule tape is very strong it will snag and wear with time. My solution is get some cheap harbor freight straps as huggers. They cost next to nothing, weight very little, are more durable, easier to replace, and an inch wide--trees and hangers win .

I have used mule tape for the rolled hem of a bridge. I can't find an application where it works better than webbing. Well except for pulling wire through conduit.

I have been using mule tape for over a year now and do not notice any damage to the trees I have hung from. I wrap around several times. It doesn't roll up either.

True, it isn't as durable as polyester straps, but the price is certainly right when you can find it...

Though to Tim*'s point, HarborFreight straps are really cheap if you have a local store...

I couldnt' find the mule tape in Shipshawana, so I'm still looking for it. I plan on using it for my toilet hammock.

For 200 lb. in a hammock hung at a 30* angle, the load on the tree bark for 1" strap with no wrap is about 21.25 PSI; for 5/8" mule tape, about 34 PSI.

For the same load in a full-wrap mode, 1" strap gives about 7 PSI; 5/8" mule tape, about 11.3 PSI.

I asked the trees in the woods behind my house---of all the loads mentioned, they like 7 PSI best.

Therefore, I vote for the use of straps of at least 1" width, in a full-wrap mode, when hanging a hammock where one or both ends will be connected to a tree or trees.

Are you a tree specialist or something? This is the 3rd or 4th time I've seen this same post in 3 or 4 different threads. While I agree with you, I don't see the point of posting more than once. Most people here know to use tree straps of 1" or wider.

Also, what is a Hennessy UQ? Do you have it mixed up with the SS maybe?

Here are three pictures of Mule Tape Failure, my husband was sound asleep and hit the ground this past Saturday, yes, I know its not the mule tape that failed but the sewing securing it . Not sure what the solution is but for now we aren't using the mule tape. It's a good thing he wasn't hanging over any rocks.

I didn't like sewing it cuz there just wasn't enough webbing there to get a good row of stitches.
I tied a knot in mine at the house and have been hanging with it for a good two months, every night. I'd read here the mule tape doesnt hold a knot well, but mine is doing fine.

I have a knotted continous loop that is larksheaded to the hammock and has a biner on it, to clip everything to the wall.
