    Newbi from NY

Hi I'm new to hammock camping but not to hammocks, I have been camping for well over 20+ yrs. I own 4 hammocks, my first hammock is a pocket net hammock (15+ yrs old) that has gone and hung at every campsite that we went to,stil have it and use it. I just bought a HH expedition w/zip took out for the first time to go to Vermonster to see my nefew race his mud truck. I'M IN LOVE!!!! sooo much better then an air mattress in a tent. Not to mention less gear to pack! I hope to get a lot of good tips and hints here. I'm already thinking about making my own dyi hammock cus I have a few guys eyebawling the hammock and the anwser to that is "no, get your own!" LOL

No no. Don't tell them "get your own", tell them "MAKE your own".

    Greetings, and welcome.

Welcome to ya! You can find a ton of information here about making all kinds of DIY gear in addition to hammocks. Have fun poking around and learning!

Hey Carol, where in Upstate NY are you from (and who know's the definition of 'upstate' these days ?). I know there are a few members from the Rochester area and the ADK's as well.

    Welcome!

    Hi Carol,

I'm from Northern NY...way up in the Adirondacks. I have really enjoyed this site, and hooking up with some of the people from here on trips up in the Adks. I go camping with a group of friends, and we make a point of getting out every month of the year...we sometimes post in here about the trips, but often just post on the other site that we met through: Zombie Squad (which is less crazy than it sounds, but not much); the NY chapter (ZSNY) is mostly about camping trips, mostly to cool places in/near the ADKs.

We're paddling out to camp on Valcour Island (on Lake Champlain) next week, and are still figuring out where to hang in November...enjoy HF, it's a fun place to learn about hammock-camping.

If Rochester is considered Upstate, then is Buffalo considered Upstate as well???...I never understood where the boundaries are.
