Just watched a Brawny03 video. Wow. She's a pro. Kind of like a nascar crew changing tires and dialing in some wedge. How in the h&*l do you do a 1/8 and 1/8 roll on silnylon, get it situated under the foot, let go to flick the switch to forward/reverse and then stand on the pedal to finish the seam? That's some impressive work there.

would a 1/4" hemmer foot make things easier? especially on heavier fabrics like denim?

cosmicmiami I do have a hem foot but I've never taken the time to get it to work, I don't pin either just roll it and sew it! <-- was the first thing I learned
little over a year ago...now I'm hooked on this DIY stuff! You'll have it down
    after hemming your first hammock.

General rule of thumb #3 applies to the rolled hem foot.

    To wit:

If you like it you will love it and use it a lot. If you don't like it you will quickly adapt and learn another way which will be faster and easier on your brain.

As always with general rule of thumb #3: Whichever way you roll... it's all good.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I just roll the hem between my fingers and feed it in. No pins, no roller foot. Everything comes out 100% functional and um ... 50% asthetically pleasing. (Maybe that's why my daughter wouldn't let me make her prom dress )

Note: Prom dress exceeds the parameters of "gear making" and goes far into the realm of "sewing". "We don't sew... We make gear!" hehehehe

That's a mighty big leap of faith there rev. You don't know if she will be using the dress as an outer garment on a future outing. Depending on the fabric, it could also be used as a hammock for a little one. I can see it now, the all-new PDH, Prom Dress Hammock.

hehe... I've seen too many prom dresses in my life to fall for that one. Course now my daughter requests that my wife make her formal wear. But then.. my wife sews. To stay on topic... she thinks a rolled hem foot is more trouble than it's worth. She can hand roll a 1/16" hem by hand within a 2mm tolerance. But like a say.. She sews.
