Good price on Kelty 12x12 Noah's

I've been looking at the Kelty Noah's 12x12 for many things, none of which involve carrying on my back (those days are gone). It will be used initially and perhaps permanently for my hammock cover as well as a camp cover. So I checked REI sales today and found it for $49.93. The 9x9 is not listed yet but the 16x16 is. There ensued a mental debate about when to give a heads up and after I placed my order won out.

So anyway, if you have been considering this tarp...

Mine was delivered yesterday. I got it for $57 with free shipping. Guess I can't complain too much, as REI would have charged me more than the difference for shipping....

Link? REI was exactly 3 dollars and 4 cents more with shipping but 3 bucks is three bucks (being a Scott and all).

I love my Kelty 12x12, Law.

Here's one method to use it from HF member Arson:

    Kelty Noah 12 at MountainSports.com

My tarp arrived Monday. Nothing too exciting. Just a standard Kelty 12. Ground is free. Took 2 business days from Texas.

I dunno, a multi use 12x12 with the quality of Kelty for around $60 is fairly exciting to me. Since I am not a "gram weenie or oz weenie" (pounds are where it begins to count) this tarp will suit me just fine. Especially when I factor in the cost of some hammock dedicated tarps. A few more bucks to save toward a good UQ. Might see about a 9x9 later just to open up the set up opportunities.

I wasn't knocking the tarp or anything about it. I bought it because it fits my needs, and I will be sleeping under it by this weekend. But compared to all the fancy UQs, TQs, hammocks, it is a bit on the mundane side.

I am excited about the tarp to be honest. My son and I are going out to play with it after work today, and that is something I am certainly looking forward to doing.

I hear ya, waiting with much anticipation for the delivery of my WBBB. Many of the tarps and other equipment choices I see here are advanced design with the emphasis on weight savings...sexy high speed low drag stuff. There is a premium paid for light weight and durability that some of us simply don't need. I don't want to pay the premium for a product that I will never be able to appreciate weight wise.

I intend to hit some local sporting goods stores to find a return/blemished synthetic sleeping bag to DIY an underquilt. It will help that we have a friend that is way into quilting with all the things needed to cut and sew it.

I want to appreciate weight savings. But my wallet beat me to it and thus the rest of my pack is heavier. I will backpack with the Noah12, and it will still be lighter than before I went to the hammock. Eventually I will get some sleek, sexy, low drag tarp, but not now. In fact, it will probably be the first "replacement" item. After this I will finish up a diy UQ on which I have been working (converted SB--I will post on this soon, it is still rough). But I certainly appreciate the value of what I am getting with the Noah 12.
