Hmm, anyone know what fabric this is? Any good as a tarp? I've heard some parachute material is silnylon but I'm guessing this is just ripstop?
For that price I'm tempted to get some just for the heck of it and find out
I'll have money tomorrow that was earmarked for HF donation but the temptation of this stuff is strong. I still need to make doors for my tarps...
I ordered and will report back when I get it.
Any info yet?
Arg. Inquiring minds want to know! No pressure but I'm dieing to find out what kind of fabric this is. At $1 a yard it sounds like a deal if its anything usable for hammocks. Well guess ill have to wait until Monday to check back in. Thanks for the purchase and support of the community.
I finally received the material today, and it finally hit me that this is parachute material. All the while I was thinking balloon material.
The package contains 2 pieces of fabric. 1 is an olive like color, and one white. The second picture below shows the colors fairly accurately. The size is marked as 39"x10 yards. My measured width is about 36.5" (it states 36" on the website). I did not measure the length. The weight of these averages 0.82#. Doing the math that comes up to about 1.3 ounces / square yard.
It's not like rip stop with the larger squares, but it seems pretty tough. I guess it would need to be in a parachute.
It's definitely NOT silicon nylon. It is not water resistant at all, but seems fairly breathable as I could blow some air through it.
Not sure what I'll use it for, but I'm sure I'll come up with something.
Here's a shot of a close up picture with a standard paper clip as a size reference.
Here's a shot that shows the color more accurately.
