In my opinion, cheaha and sipsey offer much better primitive backpacking/camping options. Oak mountain is fine for car camping, mtn biking and day hiking.

I'll be doing a 2 or 3 nighter in sipsey in early November and can report back on the conditions, etc.

Cheaha, at least the trail me and a buddy hiked, had a lot of hammock campers. It was really dry, but cave creek had a super clear stream of water to pull from. And we were able to find enough large rocks to responsibly set up a fire ring, etc.

Anyway, just my thoughts, but I'm up for darn near anything.

I like the Cheaha area, that would be nice. Never been to Sipsey, but read good things. Either would be fine with me. I tend to agree that both areas have better hike and camp options than Oak Mountain, but I would be happy with any location.

I did some reading on the Sipsey Wilderness area, this looks really nice. Again, I am game for whatever, just love to get outdoors.

Wow. Cheaha is just over an hour's drive from me. If I get my hammock before then, I'll definitely try to make it. Though around Christmas is a really busy time for me.

I would love to hang out and make new friends.

Still some interest in this trip I hope? Any more thoughts on Cheaha vs. Sipsey Wilderness area? If we don't do Oak Mountain, will that cause anyone NOT to be able to go? I am still OK with Oak Mountain as well if that is the preferred location.

If we get some rain in the near future the Cheaha area would be a great place to go hang. Say we meet at the Turnipseed Trail Parking area and then hike to Lake Chinnabee. Some beautiful terrain and not to difficult a trail to hike. I am also still good with the Oak Mountain idea as well. I am still interested even if it is somewhere in LA!

I would be ok with either of those places. I just need to get a date on my calendar before it gets filled up with Christmas parties and family gatherings.

We still looking at the weekend of Dec 10-12? I mentioned this to a friend, and he might be interested. He is a tent camper though, think he would be welcome to come along?

How long a hike is the Turnipseed to Lake Chnnabee?

So would we be talking about an overnite on this trail, or adding some to it? I have hiked some of the trails up around Cheaha and they are really nice. I would be game for trying this one out if the group agrees.
