300' on eBay is the smallest quantity I've been able to find. I've got some more coming in next week and will have some extra to share. It's the 1250# 1/2 inch polyester version. I have plans for a fair amount of the footage, so this isn't like a group buy situation, but I could probably help a few people out. A group buy would take 3000' and probably save a few cents per foot.

When my HH treehuggers were too short, I went to the junkyard and bought two
lengths of 6-8' seatbelts. Each length came with a loop at one end and the other end can be used as is with a marlinspike, or just go ahead and sew a loop in the end.

1/2" mule tape seems a bit narrow to provide much protection to the tree.
I think 1" is near minimum in most cases, and wider is better for thin barked trees.

I'm no scientist though, and haven't done any studies...

I went to a few stores and the only thing I can find doesn't look strong enough, or the breaking strength just isn't high enough for me to feel safe.
I make my own using Mil-Spec 1" climbing strap- poly.
    http://www.rei.com/product/783605/1-...ing?ref=472006
    Less than 12g per foot
    Strength 17.8 kilonewtons (climbing rated)

    • In stock at most Rei and only $0.36 per foot - and No waiting for delivery.
    • REIs usually -usually have more quantity and colors in the back- don't let the small amounts on the retail floor fool ya.
    • They will cut it to your desired length and heat seal both ends.

tie a waterknot in one or both ends to make a loop about 4-6" long.
    Done.
    (thanks Dash!)

+1 on the ratchet straps. That is what I use.

This place keeps costing me more and more dinero. Just headed over to strapworks and ordered a couple more sets of polypropylene straps. I usually just order a 24' strap with 2" loops sewn on each end and have them cut it in half and singe the ends. They are excellent quality and strong as hell. Not as cheap as the Harbor Freight straps, but $15 for a set with the loops already sewn in and shipped isn't too bad.

I use 6 foot straps made from military grade 1" webbing from REI. Tied a water knot on one end with a 4" loop, MSH on the other end.

Stupid question... I got the all in one system with the 6' sling and 8' hugger. If I have a tree that is only a few feet round, what is the best way to hook it up to prevent sliding? I have been just wrapping it multiple times around the tree... Just wondering if anyone has any clever tricks that I don't know about
