If you don't mind a little drive into SC, check out Congaree National park, great places to hang, no charge, great trails through the swamp, lots of wildlife, even a boardwalk loop that's over 2 miles long with lot's of neat thing to look at. Not the usual type of place people think of when looking for a place to hike, since it is all flat, but it is a great place nonetheless! Check it out http://www.nps.gov/cong

Oh and it is a great place for some flat water conoeing and kayaking!!

A little further, but the area around Ellicot Rock of the Chatooga River is one of my favorite spots. It's right at the GA/SC/NC line.

-Burrells Ford is a hike in campground down a forest road. I sometimes take a wagon to carry a cooler or kids gear.
-East Fork River and Ellicott Rock area have a few designated campsites but I prefer to stealth camp here.

Lots of designated hiking trails and short hikes to waterfalls in this area.

They have two designated campgrounds, one right at the parking area, with porta-potties right there if you want to use them, another about a half a mile walk from the parking area and you can camp anywhere in the back country as long as you are a certain distance from the trails and such. Me and Ricegravy (another member here) did an overnight canoe trip through the swamp and it was great for hammocking, but let me tell you, we would have been miserable if we had tried tents!

Check this out, this is the trip report from mine and Ricegravy's canoe trip, just do a search for congaree on this site and you'll see many trip reports from our many group hangs there, keep an eye out, seems to me that it is about time for us to plan another congaree swamp hang!!

hangs are somewhat random. You'll see annual hangs occuring at the same time each year and then there are hangs that may be put together a few months to a couple of days out.

Just to throw it out there, we have recently hanged on Goat Island in Lake Greenwood. Although you need a boat to access the island, if a large enough crowd is coming, hopefully will have a motor boat to get those that don't have a boat. Thanks to Dameon for the last hang, he helped out with shuttling a few folks over. Worst case scenario. . . we can hook up the "redneck-ski" once again (picture jetski & canoe) !
