    A thought about freezing whoopies

I was reading another thread and something crossed my mind: how do whoopies (amsteel) preform when they become wet and frozen? Specifically if they are "soaked" and then frozen. Does the tigtness of the braid allow any water into the bury?

Likewise, how about a similar situation with triglides or similar hardware?

Not that I am often in these conditions, but I end up there every few years or so...

    Here's a thread that discusses it. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...d.php?p=178136

I believe there was some backyard testing involved as well. A good read.

I used whoopies all last winter, and they got soaked and frozen several times.

Water does infiltrate between the strands of the sling, but it doesn't seem to affect the constriction. Also, I didn't have any significant problems loosening them up afterwards. Mostly just running a gloved hand over the outside of the bury did the trick.

YMMV, but I think they have been tested sufficiently to be considered reliable in winter.

Thanks for the link. Just went through it start to finish. I didn't really doubt it, knowing whoopies have been used for several winters, but it was reassuring to see Running Feather (the Brave!) had taken the time to test it out.
