    Experiment

So, I'm taking the coolest class ever set up by a high school: computational chemistry. I learn the same techniques that pharmecutical companies use to test new drugs, on a smaller scale of course.

This class has a final research project, and I'm thinking of running tests to compare the heat output, efficiency, and activation energies for various camping fuels, including white gas, propane, butane, isopropyl alcohol, and denatured alcohol.

What other fuels should I look at testing, and would you like me to publish this somewhere on the forums when I'm finished?

How about meths ... like HEET in the yellow bottle. That is what I burn mostly.

I'm pretty sure that is isopropyl alcohol, that's what it says on my bottle of HEET anyways.

...you could add esbit tablets and Everclear.

    What about wood?
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

+1 on Everclear. My favorite *burp* fuel. Multiple use, non-toxic and higher heat calorie density than Methyl alcohol. A bit more expensive and not readily available in all regions.

...look again. It's not rubbing alcohol!

I would test wood, but computationally testing a solid is way more trouble than it's worth. Not to mention which species to consider.

Testing a gas is where it's at.

IIRC, the red bottle of HEET is isopropyl. The yellow bottle is methyl alcohol.

Ah, thank you for the correction. I'll test the methyl alcohol.
