IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
don Vicente who took me under his wing and taught me to knot my first few hammocks.
Otilio shared my passion for making them and learning all I could about them.
More recently, they would have to be Risk, Sgt Rock, and Just Jeff.
a young fella that i took along on one of the backpacking trips i lead several years ago slept in a hammock.
i was puzzled, wondering how well he would sleep in that thing, yet at the same time curiously attracted to the idea.
it was probably a couple years later that i some how found ed's hammockcamping yahoo group & got interested enough to buy my 1st hammock, an ENO.
i learned a lot from the yahoo group & of course jeff & risk's sites were of tremendous help!
then came hammock forums!!! yeah!!! continuing education!

My daughter.... if it were not for her asking for a Clark Hammock for a college graduation present, I would not be hanging today. Of course my other hammock hanging hero would be the notorious NEO!

Two years ago there was a forest fire on Galliano Island where Tom Hennesy lives. My son in law was in the fire supression team that put the fire out and Tom gave each member of the fire crew a free hammock. This summer my son in law convinced me to try it out and I was instantly hooked.
All of the helpful information and great people in Hammock Forum. Thankyou to all.
What I lack in knowledge I MORE than make up for with opinions.
Green Therapy
A couple of years ago I was researching gear to prep for me and my oldest two sons to go to the Philmont Boy Scout ranch for a week and a half of backpacking. In the course of that I encountered camping hammocks---bought a quilt from the jacks to replace a sleeping bag---but thought it looked kinda weird. Then a year ago I was thinking about how the same three of us were going to hike a section of the AT through the White Mountains. We used to live in New Hampshire and I knew the trail some. Flat enough for tents is hard to find outside of the approved camping areas. I wasn't keen on staying in the shelters (especially was not keen on paying the AMC fees) and remembered the camping hammocks. So it was back onto the Internet where I found Risk's site, JustJeff's site, Rock's site, and these forums. All of that convinced me it could work for us. We stealth camped by hanging hrough a section of the Whites and it was great. This community, and the freely shared information here in HF drew us in.
Coming back to civilization I kept up with HF, and was envious of the guys who could do DIY projects. TeeDee raved about this HH Safari clone, and having spent a week in an HH Explorer, and liking space, I said to myself "man I wish I could do that". But the HH design is non-trivial, and I couldn't sew. Then TeeDee got a bee in his bonnet about this bridge hammock. He built one, and he showed HF how he was doing it. "Dang", said I, "I could learn to sew well enough to do that". And so I did.
My hall of fame has those guys with the great web sites and the HF community in general for getting me into hammocking, and TeeDee for luring me into the DIY addiction.

back when before many, many people got kicked off or left the backpackinglight yahoo group, Shane Steinkamp influenced me try hammocking. Of course Sgt Rock had some excellent information and I think that's when Risk got the bug....
