A gathered end hammock should be made from material 10'-11' in length. 11' is extreme, but I love my 11' hammock...

Bridge hammock? Ask Grizz... though longer than you need won't buy you much...

Grizz usually adds about 6-8 inches to the height for a bridge. In a bridge, longer is not better. That's one reason I got rid of my DIY bridge. I made it too long.

You need to add at least 1 foot to the finished size of the gathered end. So if you want to have a 10' hammock you need to start with an 11' piece IF you are going to channel the ends. If you are going to whip it you need to add 8-12 inches to each end of the finished length. If you are going to tie it you need to add 18" to each end.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

10 feet is a pretty safe bet IMO. You could always make it 11 feet and then redo it to 10 if you find 11 too long.

I want to use a whipping with a larkshead on a DIY hammock. Would the length I need be 12 ft. then? I have not made 1 before, so I don't know what length I need. I am 6'2".
