Tarp guy line question

I get the idea of adding shock cord to your guy lines to provide constant tension as your tarp may sag. I've even put together a set of these using a version described in the forums (THANKS!).

My question is about tightening these guy lines up. I watched a video (I didn't bookmark the thread) where it looked like the presenter had a prussic attached to the guy line with the prussic loop permanently attached to the D-ring on the corner of the tarp.

Can someone describe exactly how you attach a prussic to the guy line and permanently attach the prussic loop to the D-ring?

This seems like a perfect way to be able to tighten up your guy lines from under the tarp. I just can't seem to figure it out.

You larks head/girth hitch the prussic to the D-ring. So if you have the prussic wrapped around the guy line you take the rest of the loop (for lack of better terminology) and stich it through the D-ring, then take the wrapped portion of the prussic and the guy and put it through said loop that is sticking out of the D-ring. Don't know if that makes sense, but thats how its done. Hope that helps.

If you really want to Prusik both ends, you can do it and I have a thread on how to do so in the suspension section, but using a Lark's Head (Girth Hitch) on the D ring of the tarp is easier. You won't be moving the side on the D-ring anyway.

EDIT: Misread your post - you weren't trying to Prusik both sides. But you could if you wanted to!

Nope. As long as it will grab the line that is passing through it, it shouldn't matter. Ideally the prussic would be a smaller diameter line than its grabbing on to, but equal diameter will work also.

Use SNT for the Prussic, too. Sticks like poor relations.
