    My DIY Tarp!

OK, so I made my DIY hammock, so I needed a tarp. And after alot of figuring, and plotting, and cutting, and "gear making"(sewing to the ground folk), here is what I made. I will test it this weekend in Pine Grove Furnace camping with Boy Scouts.
Hopefully I remember to take pics, because I know 'da rules, no pics, it didn't happen!

Very nice! What material did you use and what's your total weight?

I used rip stop that I bought at JoAnn's, the total weight is 28 oz. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it's my first tarp, and I am happy so far.
I'll know how happy after this weekend.

    What he said.

Why are the green strengthening patches so small? Was that a design plan (or flaw)? The material you used for the tarp itself looks great!

We posted at the same time...

So, did you silicone coat this ripstop? Cause it's not water-proof...probably not terrible water resistant either.

    Thanks DannyBoy2K, and Lonely Raven.

Well, the strengthening patches are a design flaw I guess, like I said, it's my first tarp, so I hope my skills will advance with more projects. They were based on the dimensions in Blackbishop's instructions for the BlackCat, but I kind of went my own way. So the patches became smaller

I have not water proofed this tarp, yet. I did try a small leak test though. I poured a glass of water on the tarp, at the ridge, and the tried to work the water into the tarp with my hands, but it stayed dry on the inside. So I am going to use it this weekend, and see how it goes, I do have the silicone and mineral spirits to make my own sil waterproofing. I just have not done that yet.

After I was done playing with my tarp, I made a ridgeline organizer for myself. I was always putting things next to my hammock, in my shoes, now I can put them in this.
Note the elastic around the top of the water bottle. The bottle kept leaning over, so this was an afterthought. I should have made the water bottle pocket deeper, or maybe just a separate bottle holder altogether.

    That looks pretty cool!

Tell us how the waterproofing goes. I have a bunch of the Joanne stuff, I've just not gotten around to waterproofing it yet (nor building my tarp for that matter)

Oh, (clapping) I love both projects. I think the green gives the tarp some cool flare and the organizer is great! Good show!!

I can't wait to hear how you do.
