I've been gone for a while so welcome to the board, Shug. Nice looking gear you're making. Thanks so much for the report on your gear and how it functioned. I've learned a lot from guys like you and Slowhike about how to do this - the info in such reports has really helped me avoid a lot of mistakes in my own gear development.

The people who really get out there have a lot to teach as well - people like Hammock Engineer (currently thruhiking) and Hammock Hanger (thru'ed several times and tackling other trails) and SgtRock (gets out there every chance he gets and thru'ing in 2008)

You guys have been really awesome in the help you've given me.

    Hey Frolicking Dino,
Checked out your gallery .... love the fellers picking some bluegrass. Do some pickin' myself on the mandolin. Nice to see hammock and camping and some music combined. Enjoyed that picture.

I would love to have an underquilt like yours Shug. (drool)

I have slept in my hammock near a frozen lake with the outside air temperature at 25F. All I used was just a self inflating pad and kept my clothes on in my zero degree bag. I was nice and warm in there, but I would rather use more efficient gear like underquilts/overquilts and such.
