Had to change my first trail name (halfback) It was because I was born in NY, moved to Fla, then moved half way back ...to NC. There are a lot of us here. ...but it was way too masculine and footballish for me, so at the Priest shelter, I confessed to changing it myself. I raise quail, have ducks, and am a pilot by trade, so Bird it became. The name was taken, so I just added Lady for the screen name.

Man.... I remember starting this thread a long time back. Love it. What a cool group of people.

Your story is awesome. I still chuckle when I think about it.

Well I am the youngest of eight kids and after my moms passing there was the reading of the will. My oldest brother read the will and he read the first six names and then "and or others". Since that time I call the second to last brother "Andor" and myself "Others"

When i was young in boyscouts i was camping and it was totally downpouring. Little me got a fire blazing as tall as i was! One of the adult leaders came over to me and said,"Someone should call you The Torch!" and the rest is history.

Wow, I missed this thread until now. Wish I had more time to read it all the way through.

Every hike I'm on people always notice my backpack. It's a "perfect for me" pack from McHale. I figured I'd only get a pack like this once, so I upgraded the material from grid stop to pure dyneema. It's pretty tough stuff, but it doesn't take dying very well, so it's all white. It's also a pretty simple design, like a giant marshmallow on my back. I'm sure you can see how references to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man developed.

My handle on the trail is Water Monkey... Last trip I fell into 2 different lakes on 2 consecutive days. Fell in... like all the way. I went by Trail Monkey before that but my buddy felt it had to be changed based on my apparent problem with lakes

HanginBear8 - Well in high school my friends called me bear. When I started hammock camping (about a year ago) I was talking to some old friends from high school and asked them why they always called me bear? They said because I was tinder hearted and cuddly but a force to be wrecked with. I don't think I'm that tuff but I'll take it lol. Anyway I was telling them about me sleeping in a hammock and how much fun it is. And one asked "So you're a hanging bear now?" And it stuck. And I like to eat .... I eight that potted meat it's worth a count. lol. Thanks to Shug and HF I'm sleeping high and dry !!!
