I normally use the same material as the rest of the body. Since the triangle will be under some stress, I always roll a hem, and make sure the top edge is not cut on the bias.

The wbbb uses grosgrain to clean up all the seams, I just roll hems and sew them together... my grosgrain edges are hideous looking.

I've got a question about this design: I finally have it mostly finished (zipper and bugnet and it's done). I strung it up for a test hang tonight and found that my ridgeline ended up needing to be about 90" give or take to get even a decent amount of sag... does this seem right? I even started with 12' for each layer so that it would be longer... did I fudge something up?
If it ain't broke, gimme a minute.

Every hanger is different. Test it out a couple times to make sure you like the ridgeline at that length and then add the bugnet.

What jazilla said... I like a LOT of sag... in my fav. Hammock I can barely reach the ridgeline because of the sag....

This has been a spectacular thread! I'm now looking for fabric to slam this thing out! I've never sewn anything more than buttons. STOKED!

So, I am giving this a go! my first time with DIY so i bought enough fabric for 2! but i'm finding cutting/measuring the longer pieces is not as easy as i would have thought. being that its a double layer im assuming getting the two pieces for the hammock as close to the same size after hemming is going to be really important? is it ok if they are a quarter inch off? half inch? inch? the fabric is stretchy so i never feel confident its exactly the right size...

i found a heated exacto blade has worked pretty good so far.

I made a bishop bag for mine. Start with a square of material 19" x 19". Fold it in half and seam down the open side using a half inch allowance. Roll down some channels and stick an eylet in. Boom job done. I got funky and turned it into an organiser too
