Jazilla - sorry if you've already posted this, but do you know what the dimensions of your longer footbox triangle was? I think you made the fabric from one piece, so I assume the hammock body is sewn up about 6 inches from the top of the triangle on the head end side?

    Meteor,
I used the original measurements 1022 used in his write up, 31x31x45. It worked well on my first hammock. I don't do a 6 inches hem. I do a 1/2 in double stitched rolled hem. I start my footbox 3 inches from the bottom edge (prior to edge hem) of the hammock body.

I really like the directions and diagrams and want to make this my first DIY project for hammock camping, really because I don't have the extra cash to buy a WBBB. The only question I have is about the weight capacity. I'm 6ft 2in and 295lbs and wonder if I should do anything different from the instructions to ensure I don't split the hammock and waste the effort.

Mine is made of a single layer of polyester taffeta from Hancock fabric. Don't know the fabric weight.
It is a bit long at 122" raw length by 60" wide

Heavier than I expected at a whopping 39.1 oz or 1108.2 grams (including stuff sack, whoopies, ridgeline organizer and a 0.54oz led flashlight I leave in the hammock)

I nearly fell over when i saw the weight.
My Zakbird is single layer 1.1 w/o bugnet but with suspension and stuffsack/organizer and weighs 1lb 2oz.

I think I'll try one with single layer 1.1 rs and see what it weighs.
If it feels too stretchy then my 8 yr old son gets a new 1.1 rs hammock.

If G's is 17.8 oz @ SL 1.7 or 1.9, then I should be able to do a SL 1.1 with net, a small shelf, and maybe a pocket or two on the inside for 15 oz or less.

Can't decide if I want to do the zipper on the bugnet or shock cord in the top like hangnout's no zipper bug net.

Actually, I'm torn between doing another warbird variant and a TZ-Jerry5 (no footbox, bugnet panels on sides, although I would have a shelf).

Any other thoughts on how to lighten the warbird?... or something similar?
Warbonnet rates 1.1 single layer right @ 185 lbs. not sure how he came up with that number or if any safety factor is build in.

    Max Flatness Rating

IDK how he came up that number either, but as a big guy I've spent alot of time trying to understand wieght rating from different manufacturers.

My understanding is that Brandon at WarBonnet rates them on a semi-subjective max flatness scale. The hammock body may hold 50% more weight before failure but the stretch of the fabric will produce serious shoulder squeeze and be quite uncomfortable for a person of that size. That is how I understand it anyway. I can say for certain that an Eno rated at 400lbs becomes rather uncomfortable over about 285lbs.

I'm 205lbs (was 210!) and I have a single 1.1 that's quite comfy. I'd bet at 295 you Could go single 1.9, but a DL 1.1 would be more comfortable.

I'm going to make one in the near future. Would like to see some better photos of your finished product. Great instructions even I can follow them.
