    Amesteel knots

So I came across a GREAT deal on a lot of amesteel yesterday so I finally bought some. This stuff is slippery!! What knots work? It also appears the ends cannot be burned/melted. How do you keep it from fraying?

Back splicing seems to be the cleanest way to stay your ends.

I've not found a knot that I'm happy with yet. They all seem to need 2-3 slippery 1/2 hitches behind them.

Splicing is the best bet. Knots will derate the strength of the rope. The double fishermans knot works well enough to make loops though.

For the ends you can use some shrink tubing to keep it from fraying.

I bury about 2" into the end (back splice). For a loop knot I like the double dragon.

I haven't used it in amsteel, but I find it easy to undo in other cords. Much prefer it over a bowline for loops.

Like Ken stated it is easy to undo, and it i simple to make. Start by making a "S" , grab the top end, make 2 turns around the lower loop (under over under over), pull the top loop up and over the 2 turns and into and thru the lower loop, and Bob's your uncle.

#3 on this page is a good description. I'd learn to tie it the second way also so you can create a loop on fixed objects.
