    Found at a park

Hi, I'm new here. I was at my local park today and found this:

I think it also had 2 "belt like" things on each end attached the loops but they were pretty beat up so I thought I'd just use old belts I had lying around the house. Is this a real hammock or a fake?

Hard to tell with just one photo. From what I can see, it doesn't look like a hammock to me -- did you find it hanging from trees? It almost looks like a bouldering carryall, perhaps. For effective sleuthing, as Sherlock would say, you need to know all the facts. Tell me more, Moriarty.

What would constitute a fake hammock?

It wasn't hanging but it was near two trees that possibly could support a hammock. The belt things were ripped so that's why it wasn't hanging. I only got the one pic because the wife didn't want me to keep it. It's actually folded in the pic so it's longer and not square. I put some new belts on it and put it back where I found it, hopefully good karma comes my way! I thought it might be a hammock but my wife says that hammocks aren't generally solid so that's why I came here.

Uh, sorry if I'm stepping on any toes here, but isn't a hammock a hammock? What else would it be?

    Solid?

I'm not sure, if you buy something that's not a hammock and then make it hammock like, is it a hammock?
I was not properly relaxing until I found hammocks.

    That's clearly not a hammock.

It looks like a fabric cover for something.

Ok thanks, I guess someone just modified it to hang from trees, they can have it back.

All camping hammocks I'm aware of are completely solid. Non-camping hammocks run the gamut.
