Sewing the Ends of Your Hammock.

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4719

In the second pic of this thread on the single line suspension the material of the hammock has been doubled over and sewn. It looks like there may be 4 or more stitches from side to side.

Where can I find a tutorial on doing this? Are there other options? I do not want to make a gathered end hammock so naturally I can tell you exactly where those tutorials are.

I turned up a search on a rolled hem but I think someone mentioned that only provides enough strength for a gathered end type hammock.

Finally getting back on this since the nights have cooled off dramatically even though the afternoons are still hot. We are getting there.

That looks like a rolled hem that's been reinforced with extra stitches...

So, your making a channeled end hammock?
The pic shows a ENO style hammock, which uses 2 extra pieces of fabric sewn to the length of the hammock body to create width.
If your building your own, you can use a one piece design. Where the channel goes, install (sew in) some gosgrain for added strength.
Sew in the grosgrain. The last 6-8 inches on the long sides.
Fold the hem on the long sides and sew them first.
Double fold the short ends, either pin them now or run a row of stitch across. Make this hem a big one to accomadate the four rows of stitching. 1" or 1-1/2" wide.
Then sew this hem down, creating the channel, four times, leaving adequate room for your suspension.
    Ambulo tua ambulo.

Is this what you are talking about?

Is there a pictorial on these forums somewhere? I can find all kinds of stuff on gathered end hammocks. Thanks.
