    New Asym Tarp Concept

Been working on a new asym tarp. The current rectangular asym tarp that I have isn't quite where I would like it to be, so I worked out a synergy between a hex cut and a regular asym.

I'd also like to cut a hole for a hood so I can use it for a poncho as well.

Never made a poncho tarp, anyone have any experience or thread I should look at?

Also, does anyone see any problems with my current design?

    Nice graphic.
Your offset cat cuts MAY cause wrinkles, but it looks extremely well thought out! I say go for it!
The hood hole will definetely pose issues with wrinkles/puckering...unless you can use velcro on the hood opening, to maintain tension across the ridgeline.
I recently built a poncho tarp. My round hood opening did cause issues, but the hood fabric does close up well enough to prevent leaks. If I were to do another one, I would incorporate a straight slit along the ridgeline for the hood opening, not round. That way it could be tensioned and velcroed/omnitaped shut and still allow for use as a head opening.

11' x 9' will be really big as a poncho. Sil makes for a sweaty poncho...while water resistant, you'll create quite a micro-climate under the tarp/poncho. And if it is raining, and the tarp is deployed, what do you wear when you need to go away (take a poo) from the tarp?
Being a poncho, it will vent some with the openings, but in my experience it gets sweaty...fast! If you can tie up the loose ends, so its size doesnt create trip and fall issues, I would recommend that.
    just some thoughts..

    gargoyle,

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at the thread. I plan to make my initial prototype out of some kite spinnaker. I have an abundance of it, unfortunately, it's not in anything but really bright colors.

I have a couple of other poncho tarps, so the sweat factor is one I am aware of and concerned about. Still not sure if I'm going to try using it as a poncho, or if I simply want to add it as an option.

My final design I want to make out of cuben. I have a feeling I'll be making several of these until I find the one that is perfect.
