    First hang!

    Hey guys -

Just wanted to share a pic of our site from this weekend - my son and I outfitted a couple of cheap army surplus hammocks and some old poncho shells into a couple of quite cozy nests for camping with the scouts!

It was Webelos Woods weekend and our troop hosted 10 Webelos (with parents) for a 2 night campout.

I got the hammock bug awhile back and have been reading all of your advice and articles, and we managed to get these built and hung with no issues.

We were able to drive to the site, so we grabbed the folding chairs for storage - a place to throw your shoes and stuff, anyway... I don't think we sat in them all weekend!

All in all - with temps in the 40s overnight, we were quite comfortable - 30 degree sleeping bags and blue pads from Wallyworld, and then a couple of blankets drawn over the top.

Now I'm off to modify my hangers - we just used 1" strap and tied loops to make tree-huggers, but adjusting them was a pain. I'm going to get some pullthru buckles and see if they'll work instead - at least I can adjust them then!

Thanks for all the activity and information you guys provide!

It was very helpful and we're looking forward to our next campout next month!

    Take care all!

    Tim

Looks good. In the future if you ever find you only have straps with no loops, just tie a loop in one end with a figure 8 knot then feed the other end around the tree and through the loop. After that use a slippery clove hitch on the carabiner that is attached to the hammock. Adjustment is fairly easy and this system works in a pinch.
