Coyote Brown, anyone? HH Sil Hex Tarp

It seems Coyote brown is a highly thought of tarp color around here. I was pleased to see this new Hex tarp is that color. I traded a green Hex tarp for the lighter Silnylon, which is 6 oz lighter and one foot longer, maybe about the same width. I measured 144" on the ridge line and 19 oz. Not as tight as my Mac Cat ( naturally ), but LOTS of coverage.

Believe it or not, the long HH Explorer ( 8" longer than than the ULBP) is under this tarp.

Here is a more straight on angle. Really good coverage. I think there will be plenty even after hammock sag.

Here you can see the HHUL Explorer hammock in Silhouette behind the tarp:

Here the MacCat Deluxe is more or less centered on the HH SN Hex, which is about 14" longer than the Mac, on the Ridgeline, and a little bit more down low.

Thanks for showing us that. How does the workmanship compare between the two tarps? I know the Macat is ultra-primo, is the hennessy in the running with it?

This is the first time I've had a chance to take it out and look at it, and it was trying to rain. So I have not made a close comparison yet, but I will later. 1st impression is of high quality, though maybe not quite up to the Mac. But a Cat cut would be nice.

Man, with that much coverage you don't even need to pitch it down low to wind/rain protection! Stand-up shelter in any weather.

I have that same HH tarp in Coyote Brown also. I love it! It has been in sustained 10mph winds and all-night-long gusts of 20-25mph. Theres no indication of any wear/tear anywhere on it.

Good to know! I take it you feel it did pretty good in the wind? Minimal flapping? That has been the big advantage with my Mac Cat, great stability in the wind. But there is definitely more coverage with the HH tarp. A little bit of extra weight but a lot of extra coverage. If I use this, I will attract even more of my tenting friends for social gatherings under the awning on rainy days! I had a lot of company, for better or worse, even under my Mac Cat during a recent drizzly week in Washington's Olympic Mountains.

I did get some flapping during the high wind gusts. HOWEVER! That may be attributed to several things

    1. operator error
    2. I am still working on how to get the best setup out of it (new to this still)
    3. This day was a trail run on a new stake/tie out gizmo I was working on (not going to use again
    4. these wind gusts were huge! Went to bed with leaves on the trees. Woke up to almost bare trees and not a leaf to be found on the ground, they all blew away!

BUT - on the very first night I ever used it, there was a torrential downpour (no/little winds) and I was dry! The ground below me was even dry after the rains stopped.
