    One of my favs...

"Have you wandered in the wilderness, the sagebrush desolation,
The bunch-grass levels where the cattle graze?
Have you whistled bits of rag-time at the end of all creation,
And learned to know the desert’s little ways?
Have you camped upon the foothills,
have you galloped o'er the ranges,
Have you roamed the arid sun-lands through and through?
Have you chummed up with the mesa?
Do you know its moods and changes?
Then listen to the Wild -- it’s calling you."

-Excerpt from Robert Service "The Call of the Wild"

I honestly only notice a slight change in the "pull" as I would go to "The piny woods" 24/7/365 if given half a chance.
The worst part of any long (more than a week) trip I take is the time I NEED to spend in town re-supplying. I would swap roles "In a heartbeat" Hike 50 weeks a year, work 2

Feeling the call down to Cumberland Island, so I will go. Wandering on the beach, walking through Centuries old live oaks and palmettos... listening to the ocean, listening to nature, and letting the feel of it all slowly, slowly osmose into me as it teaches and reminds my soul of how things were in simpler (but not easier) times.

Oh, hey, I'm sorry. I rambled on...

    Ready to go.

I have to say, around here, the 'answering the call of Nature' usually means, "please excuse me, I have to visit the bathroom"
....but it strikes me that this could lead to an extended excused absence, if properly applied, say near the end of a Friday afternoon meeting...

    Got several lined up....

I have 3 backpack trips lined up over each one of the next 3 months. One will be fairly local on a remote section of the Florida Trail, the others in the Smoky Mountains and at Cheaha. One 1-nighter; one 2-nighter and one 3-nighter. My son and I are interested in another local 1-nighter, but I we really don't have a good weekend set up yet. There are always possibilities.

I gotta get back out there....

I've got a one nighter in the next few weeks, and then my annual thanksgiving pilgrimmage to mt rogers. We have been doing this the same weekend for the last 10 years. This will probably be the last on to the mountain for awhile, figuring there has to be a bunch of places closer than a 6.5 hour car ride to backpack. But some people still need to see the ponies.

But as a newb to the HF world, I will deifnately be going back for the winter hang in january.

Man your killin' me..... I feel the pull all the time but gotta balance friends, work, family, and GF.... Now if I could just get a job as a gear tester and talk my GF into backpacking with me I'd be all set.... Family is always gonna be family, right....
