The woods are calling arent' they?

I've felt the pull all my life...getting into a hammock is my way of assuaging the draw by being able to quickly and comfortably "camp" in my yard...something about sleeping outside in the cool/cold air does wonders for me.

I just wish there were more places in the Chicagoland area (near by me) that I can legally camp out for some one nighters. Paying $25 to "camp" in a well manicured camp ground is not what I had in mind...but that's all I'm finding out here...

I need to stealth camp some this winter...

The woods, the mountains, they call me. I live in a long valley that I drive the length of nearly every day. I see them, I can't help but look. They always look different, but they're always the same. And I wonder what it's like, right then, up there.

Me too! I would be up for another Pisgah area hang in November or maybe a Chattooga River hang.

Hopefully I'll find something soon. Too much of the woods is being taken down for strip malls and condos. Most of the open land I see is secured preserve, or marsh land...and I don't feel like mucking through marsh up to my knees to hang!

Plus stealth camping means no fires....

LSU has an open date next weekend so I will be off to section hike on the Pinhoti Trail in east Alabama.

Oh I feel it. My wife is having a heck of a time keeping me at home. Every weekend I try to slip into our conversation, "I may go on a short hike this weekend" very casually.

Pfft!! Up here in the "northland", we just wait for all that marsh to freeze! Won't be long, now!
