    Carabiners

Where do you guys usually buy your carabiners at and what metal? For some reason I can find them for less than $5 each and all of them are aluminum, which probably won't do so well in the long run if use them for supports.

REI and the like has a good selection. I got my hiking biners online, though.

REI's are $5 each. Back in the day I remember them things a lot cheaper. Everything is on-line nowadays, heh.

"The like" Hmm... never heard of them.

These are about as lightweight as they come in a climbing rated carabiner

Only site I have found that offers them in anodized and polished.

I have these on my setup thanks to JRB's raffle at the 1st MAHHA hang. I was using ones rated at 150lbs, and quickly changed them out.

I think spending a little extra to make sure you don't drop is worth it. I'm replacing both my boys setups with these.

The Treklight biners are a great deal. The webbing wrapped around the tree is taking most of the weight.

My local outfitter, Alabama Outdoors, has semiannual customer appreciation days. Got a pair of "nano wires" for about $6 apiece during the sale.

You have to be patient and wait for the deals to come along. On-line is nice, but shipping is sometimes more than the cost of the product, i.e SMC descending rings $1 each for 4, + $6.95 for shipping.

No one uses steel carabiners for anything, the only ones made are for rescue work and they are rated for something like 10,000 #.
