Talox, your set up is virtually identical to the ones my brother and I put up over the weekend. We used 1/4 rebar stakes at a foot long and they haven't budged at all.

I find that I can put the whole thing up in <15 minutes. so the distance is easy enough to experiment with.
    Thanks, Talox.

Looking at your diagrams and pictures, it looks as if you altered the length of the bottom and upright lines from the original dimensions set out by Dejoha. Was there a reason for that, and have you found that it compromises anything structurally?

Only that i didnt want to take up so much real estate for the stakes. The wide angles that are in the original design are needed if you are hanging at an angle off of the 2x3s. When I set my stand up My hammock is in line with the 2x3. so when i'm hanging My weight is pulling the 2x3 into the ground not to the side trying to pull the 2x3 over.

Yesterday we set up 2 hammocks side be side for an afternoon nap for me and the wife off of a dogwood that we have in the middle of the Yard the stakes are about 19.5' from the base of the tree and 8' apart. 2 hammocks, 2 2x3s and 3 stakes.

I dusted off my YATS today in preparation for the Texas Hang. I realized I hadn't posted photos here of my stand either. I also made a few tweeks to it over the two or so years I have been using it.

    1) I cut down the 2 x 4s to lighten the load. Originally I used a ballistic curve like a beam on a trebuchet; but this proved very long and laborious. Now I just cut them 1.75" on one end and 3.25" on the other; this keeps them light, strong and I can get two out of a 2 x 4.

    2) I have tried all kinds of ropes, from the original posted ropes to ropes used for anchorage and docking. By far the best is Amsteel.

    3) All the loops are locked Brummels; this keeps everything in place for easy set up

    4) I have also treated the spars with boiled Linseed Oil; my last stand died of exposure while in the bed of my truck.

    5) I have a working design for a center tarp; it's not fully developed yet but I hope to have it in good working order by the Texas Hang.

I use a carabiner and a large Figure 9 to tighten everything up.

    Bottom loops

    Stake loops.

Nice job with the Amsteel! I am sure it really makes it much easier to manage. Good work.

I am trying to figure out the starting lengthen of the side and bottom ropes. A perfect tetrahedron would have +/- 8' side ropes and +/- 14' bottom ropes however, this would put the end of the wood struts on the center of the hexagon. All of the photos that I have seen of the 3 hammock stands have space in the center. Any suggestions?

10 feet, 7 inches for the side and bottom ropes.

Do you use 14' between stales and 8' wood spars?

Yes, but I have also used 12' between stakes with the same struts. Makes the distance a little tight to hang (short hang) but it's doable if you need a 24' footprint.

14' between stakes is the most comfortable with my 11' hammocks.
