Can you calculate the rope lengths too?

I had been working on a tensegrity stand yet due to time constraints had to quickly come up with 2 post stands for a scout camp. Thanks to you, we're back in business with 1 more hammock for the same money put out.
Thanks! And you're welcome. The one drawback with this design is the larger footprint, although with shorter poles and ropes you could reduce that by a few feet. Overall, I think this is a very simple, effective, and inexpensive multi-hammock stand.

Unless I've missed something, I think we're overcomplicating the calculations. If the spars and supporting tie-outs are to form a regular tetrahedron (equivalent 3-sided pyramid), then the tie-outs will always be the same length as the spar. The top rope lengths are determined by span you want (ie. 14',12',10').
So, the formula for determining the height of a tetrahedron based on it's edge length is
    H = sqr(6)/3 * a, where a is the edge length. (or H = edgeLen * 0.8165 )
If this is a valid thought, then the method for determining the stake locations will also need to be changed.

Spar Length (ft) - Vert Height (ft) - TopRopeSpan - Footprint Diameter
    8.0 6.53 14.00 22.27
    7.0 5.72
    6.0 4.90
    5.0 4.08 10.00 15.28

How about calling it a YAMHS (pronounces yams, as in the tuber) Yet Another Multiple Hammock Stand, since it's not actually a tensegrity prism.

    Maybe?

Boy, I'm sure getting beat up over the tensegrity thing

I admit it is not the traditional looking tensegrity stand I built on the other thread, but it uses the same foundation principles. I also didn't come up with the name, having only borrowed it from the bweebwee folks, so it may be completely off from a purists point of view.

If the shoe fits; call a spade a spade, etc.

Maybe we can call it a "3-up Stand" or "the un-segrity stand" or "the anti-tensegrity stand" or "not technically speaking a tensegrity prism stand for up to three hammocks" or "just a cheap stand that can hold up to three hammocks not to be confused with the official tensegrity stand" or "the burning man stand" or "one, two, or three, it's up to thee" or something short and obfuscated like "zee stand" or "hex stand".

    I don't know, I give up.

I see far more compliments for a terrific stand!

Here's the definition of tensegrity. I think the difference is that a tensegrity structure can stand alone in space, having the necessary tension and compression self contained. In your structure, the earth is an integral component. However, that is what makes it simple!

Content aside, that was one of the most entertaining videos in memory.
