Bought supplies last night and started prepping my ropes. Too bad my yard isn't bigenough to set this up. Too many trees. Wait a minute. What?

I was trying to figure this out just this weekend. My need is to hang in the yard with no trees. I don't have the space for the full setup but I have a couple of thoughts on that.
1. Two equilateral triangles should work just as well....I think.
2. By reducing the height of the poles to just a few inches over the hammock connection point you would reduce the overall footprint of each triangle. Using dejoha's handy calculator you can also play with numbers reducing your seat height to 6 or so inches(just enough to make sure you clear the ground). While not ideal, it provides the comfort of the hammock,being off the ground and reducing the dreaded crash distance should the experiment fail.

This past weekend, I was successful in rigging one end point that was stable enough for my children to hang in (my son is about 70lbs) with the other tied to a fence post in the side yard. It lasted about 10 minutes for my 200# self before the the pole slipped out. I had not secured the base triangle and I knew my stakes were insufficient. I was actually surprised how long it stayed up. I hope to have time to work on it again this weekend and I will try to get some pics posted if successful - my kids would love to get video of me if I am unsuccessful.

I started with 550 paracord I had around the house and a 5 ft 'post' of 2" sched40 PVC.

I just came back from our nationwide scout camp. I prepared a YATS as there were no trees on site and it was awesome!
I'll have to write a German HowTo for all the folks that want to build one.
The DYI TableCloth hammock will be on the "I want one too" list for many of the stand testers.

I used 2.5m long 78mm by 58mm fir, 4mm Dymeema with spliced loops for all ropes and a 1ton ratchet down strap for the upper triangle.
I found out that it even fits for my RidgeRunner!

Just built what I believe is the very first YATS in Africa....I live in Nigeria and I am the Asst. Scoutmaster for BSA troop 803 of the American International School in Lagos..
We are going on a camp out in 2 weeks and I am not sure of the tree situation...I found the YATS directions online...great stuff...really easy and very cool..

I had my daughter, son, and I (at 255lbs) on it and it did not budge...

What do you think that maximum weight for this is, using just 2x4's? Would like to try this out, but if I'm already stretching the limits @300lbs, 2 more hangers would be no good!

I built one of these a couple of weekends ago. Worked pretty good and yes it does take up a lot of room. The only problem was my longer hammocks did not seem to have enough room to hang the way I wanted. My DIY hammocks had no problem, but my Hennessey seemed to not have enough room. How far apart are the hang points typically. I followed the directions but I was wondering if I had done something incorrectly.

Any Hennessy hammock should work fine with this stand. Those hammocks aren't especially long as hammocks go. The long rope suspension just needs to be dealt with.

As far as weight capacity, I honestly have not tested the stand to destruction. However, the struts will hold tremendous weight because of how it is constructed -- compressed weight down the strut.

I had my brother, 230 lbs, plus me, 170 lbs, and a child, 90 lbs at one time. I know you could do more. The rope is most important with hangs like this. Invest in higher quality with less stretch. Paul from arrowhead made one with amsteel.
