Welcome, smashdn, from right down the road in Music City USA. I'll second all the other recommendations already made, and will add the Big South Fork NRRA, which lays on the border in both KY and TN. Great place. Like the Smokies, only without the people, it's been called.

There are some excellent places to stretch the legs, though the sheer volume of horse packers in the Mammoth Cave area has reduced that somewhat.

Dookie dodging is getting old.

The North-South Trail at Land Between the Lakes is a fantastic place to break into long-distance hiking. 62 miles of nearly all level ground and decent water sources in multiple areas make it a great place for a long, relatively easy walk.

I have a nice place or two picked out for some deep woods backcountry camping well away from roads and trails that I have found while hunting.

While you're at it, a 2 1/2 hours drive will take you to Savage Gulf State Natural area near Gruetli Laager, TN (a bit northeast of Monteagle, TN).

It is definintely on the list as well. Sounded like there were some nice waterfalls in the park. I did Fall Creek Falls for my anniversary two years ago.
