    Joann Taffeta...

So I'm getting the itch to get the tread injector out and made an UQ... Looking for local options for fabric at Joann and found these online... Haven't looked at them in person but I like the colors, not sure of the weight but might go and check them out in person later today...

    Any thoughts on these....

Not to step on your thread, but I was just about to ask a similiar question since I have a 50% off coupon in my E-mail.

I think the most important question is: Is this material (and the ripstop I'm considering) DOWNPROOF?

The taffita you're looking at is close to 2.0oz a yard if I recall. I've looked at it many times in consideration for a DIY hammock. It would be great for a hammock, but I'm curious if the taffita and ripstop are at all downproof...

taffeta is by nature heavier than ripstop. I think that is probably 70D (~1.9 oz/yd). Since taffeta is a different weave pattern (taffeta comes in many fiber contents) it is more likely to be more downproof than 1.1 uncalendared ripstop. Calendared taffeta would be more downproof than 1.1 calendared ripstop. But of course the have the additional weight penalty. As the late great rosanne rosannadanna said.. "There's always something."
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."
