Any One Know Anything About Big South Fork?

I have a few days of vacation to burn. I planned them for this week. I intend on going to Big South Fork in N E Tennessee. I see rain in forecast for most of the trip but oh well. This will be Sun afternoon through Wed morning. so roughly 3 days worth. Half day Sun and Half Wed.

What I need is a good plan for a trip I am looking at the maps and cant really get an good idea of what is going to be the best for the buck. I am looking ath the John Muir Trail there but water seems to be an issue there since it is on the ridge for a good portion.

    Any suggestions is great.

I can't say that i liked the KY portion - not well maintained. have done all the stuff around Bandy Creek campground area and liked it. Slave Falls and Twin arches is another good area, as well as around charot creek lodge. So my recommendation would be to stick to the mid section of the park. Don't worry about KY or the honey creek areas.

I know what you mean when you are trying to plan a loop trail in the BSF. Lots to choose from. I agree with jbryan. I would park at the Charit Creek Trail head and plan the loop from there. You can pick several different size loops from that parking lot. If you pick a longer loop and decide to shorten the hike, the trail head is in a central location with shortcuts back.

Don't miss the Twin Arches. The arches and the trail down to Jakes Place is probably one of the most scenic in the park.

2sticks has a couple videos of our trip in June in the trip report forums.

Once you pick a loop I might be able to suggest some good campsites.

Go to kywilderness.com, and hook up with BSFHiker. He lives in McCreary Co, and has a ton of trail info.
