    Angry Repair my hammock?

I was hanging off a fence at the hotel lastnight, and managed to put some holes in my ENO Doublenest. What happened is I made an injudicious decision to put one end on the top of the wrought iron fence pole and the cap came off landing me on my butt, and the iron cap came down in my hammock putting several small impact tears in the fabric and cutting an inch long hole in another place. What I would like to know is how should I go about repairing the holes. Should I use the stuffsack and create patches then darn them over the holes? Should I just set the thread injector on zigzag and go over the tears and holes until they are covered up? What is the best way to fix this? Please help.

Patch would be best. I have a hammock with 1" hole that I use all the time and never repaired at all. Trick is don't have the hole under your butt. If it is there it will be a matter of time no matter what you do. I also have another hammock made from Walmart material that has horrible runners that are a foot long. You can see through them. It still holds me at 200#. The direction and location of the hole will determine its fate more than your repair. There are some who have had luck with adhesive tapes also.

I just had a crazy thought, what about a double layer patch and crazy glue? Glue the edges together, use the patches on either side then just run a stitch around the outside of the patches.
What do you think of that?

Way to think outside the box, Readr, but Crazy Glue is quite brittle when it dries and it would crack and break as the fabric moved. I think you've got your answer from these learned folks, many of whom have all hung from places they've regretted. That's all part of the learning experience. Happy hanging and BE SAFE!

Look into getting some tear-aid!!!!! You can generally find it in the camping section of big box outdoor stores. It is recommended for tears on outdoor fabric and has an elastic characteristic to it. On piece on the top of the tear and one on the bottom should work.

Thanks All! I will probably go with a repair like what Bradley posted. I was really bummed out about this but I think it will patch up just peachy.

    Hey readr1

It has held up great and seams to be the way

They never used glue, just double stitched it.

Thanks. I just spent an hour pulling all the seams out of the integrated stuff-sack so the materials will match. I will be cutting out the patches and sewing them on tomorrow. Hopefully I can do a decent job on this repair... I will post pictures sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Patch aid works great. They use it on the sails of sail boats. I used it on my black bird and it is holding up great. I know you are patching it and that will work better if it is on a pressure point of the hammock
