Jay, for the sort of backpacking you do a 3.66m x 3.66m (12' x 12') tarp is too large. This tarp does come in a 2.75m x 2.75m (9' x 9')size that would likely be better for you.

You have all convinced me. I will stay with my Speer Winter Tarp for now. I plan to use it through the Summer too when not using the supplied tarp with the Claytor. The dip in the hang of the hammock I suspect will shorten the 10 foot hammock by at least a foot. That leaves a foot on each end of coverage. Mule
