    Kelty Noah and STG lines

I just got my Kelty 9- looks great. I had been reading about using STG lines. I know most use them for the silnylon tarps. Do you think that the Kelty will stretch, and that I would need to use STG?

The Kelty tarp is made of polyester, not nylon, and it has hardly any stretch. I have always used plain ol' regular stake-out lines (I like Kelty's "TripTease" line with the reflective weave; helps prevent a late-night falling, tripping, and ripping stuff down) with no problems.

TY Desmobob, I was thinking that I didn't need them for the Kelty, just wanted to make sure. I might put them on at home, just for the practice, for when I do get a nylon tarp. I was surprised when I finally got the Kelty, and found that it had the guy lines (TripTease) with it.

    You're welcome.

Pretty cool that they come with the Trip Tease lines these days! I've purchased a couple of hanks of it over the years. It's handy stuff. I make lanyards, key fobs, etc. with it.

I have the Noah's Tarps 9 and 12, purchased years ago. The 9 started leaking this year and I was about to re-coat it with urethane (McNett TentSure) but Kelty said to send it in and they'd fix me up. Good folks....

I sent it in, but purchased an OES MacCat Deluxe in the mean time. It appears to be about half or less the weight and half or less the packed volume of the Kelty Noah's Tarp 9. But it is made of SilNylon instead of polyester, so I imagine it will stretch a bit. Right after I read your original post, I got out the new MacCat and added shock cord tensioners to the guy lines.

Thanks for bringing it to my mind!

    Happy napping,

I just started experimenting with my Noah 12'.
Having fun with it in the wind 10-20 mph with gusts to 25-30.
I'm using paracord and small figure 9's and the ones with the
carabiner. I used to be a knot "purist", however since my physical being started malfunctioning i have been using them more and more. Also using old cheapo trekking poles and poles re-purposed form tents, golf and whatever i can find that will fit my parameters (light, compact, versatile, snag-less, sturdy, and not too hard on the eyes) The nearby Army-Navy store has started selling
100' hanks of paracord in different colors for $5.99. I'm using different colors for different lengths to presumably make for better organization and prevent waste. Have fun!

I was considering the Noah's 9 tarp, but it did not appear to be very versatile....it looks like it was only designed to be setup in the diamond configurations.
