You dont have to feed an underquilt, an underquilt won't poop on your hammock underquilts are lighter than hens, underquilts don't cluck all night. But an underquilt won't lay an egg for ya for breakfast. Hmmm decisions decisions a string of hens or an underquilt? Gonna have to do some research on the thermal properties of hens vs underquilts. Googling hens...

...and i wont even touch the phrase "googling hens!" It is almost worth the photo op if I can get my little hen to pose for me in the right place. We named her Kiev (...get it?) and she has yet to poop on my new WBBB. Good call on her part really. We have a huge bunch of ducks on a pond near my office and when I walk past them all I can think is "free down free down free down free down"
Hedgehogs! Why can't they just share the hedge?

I'm thinking for the semi-mild winter allot of us Florida full-timers camp in, a Summer weight UQ will work for me.

Even trips to colder climates for a week is hard for me to commit to a full fledged UQ. Still undecided.

I slept last weekend in 40* weather. Just a CCF pad and my sleeping bag, and layered clothing. Snug-as-a-bug multiple nights. I believe I could have been comfortable to mid-30's.
I must admit I have some built in insulation to my benefit though.

I have been down to the mid/upper 30's on the FT with just my Z-lite and DIY SPE. I found it does help to tuck my top quilt under me some when its really cool. As much as I would like to own an underquilt, not sure I would ever use it here....

Folks, I just left the Texas hang: It was awesome! It was not only my first HF group hang, but was also my first car camping experience and I can't wait until the Florida hang. One thing we all agreed on in Texas is that fire is very entertaining! Hopefully, we can burn where we are going.

Good to hear MAD777. A great campfire is a MUST each and every night.

Islander, I just used a very lightweight underquilt (39"x51") with only 3 oz of down in it. That kept me comfortable on a 38 degree night at the Texas hang on the shore of a large lake!

Click, you're counted! Looking forward to hanging out with all these fine people!
Good times hanging from the Hammock. Still a few months to get dialed in. I've been out hammock camping the past two weekends, learning lots and sleeping like a baby each and everynight.

I want to order my HF flag in tropical colors, but devilwoman (who hasn't answered my email!) doesn't have turquoise flag fabric with pink letters (grin). I really wanted a pink flamingo in the hammock!

Anyway, my son is a CAD textile designer so I asked him to do some colorways for me. I have 5 samples...it's amazing how different they look.

I'd like to share them with other HF members in the main section. I can forward the email with the attachments. Can anyone post them somewhere????? Where would be a good place so that they don't get buried?
