i learned at the NJ winter hang that these are two different animals. i froze hanging around and talking.
today im packing for the Gorge and i find myself saying "ill throw it in the trunk, i may use it". have said this 20 times LOL.
What different things do you bring to a hang that you wouldn't necessarily hike with??

To a hang: A chair. Warmer clothes and boots for standing around. Extra food to share. Extra gear that I want to show off to other hangers. Extra campfire wood. I also always seem to bring a big jug of water to hangs. I also bring stuff to give away or sell because a hang is a good place to do it.

For the ID hang I had a Huge Rubbermaid for extra gear, had 2 extra stoves, a bigger coat, second under quilt another tote full of extra food. All sorts of stuff that got sorted out and condensed down to my hiking gear when we headed out on the trail. Car camping is a totally diffrent animal than hiking for me, I tend to have a lot of extra crap that if I really take the time to par it all down I end up with my hiking gear, not a lot extra.

Well if I'm close to my car a 5 gallon water jug. My wisper light and alchy and bush buddy stoves. Enough layers to cloth every one their if its a cold hang and any un nessary item that I would never bring on a hike but enjoy playing with it in the woods
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I also may get more creative on cooking and bring stoves, pie irons, or dutch ovens.

for car camping I bring all my hiking gear plus,
chair, axe, jam box, guitar, ukulele, cooler full of beer, bushcraft books and plant identification books, telescope for stars, sky scout(star finding device), extra tarps, rope, steak, chicken, and lots of other food.
Because you fall through the clouds if you try to lay on them, so the next best thing is a hammock.
To the Mt rogers hang I (Usually) bring: TO the shelter; a chair, Stand around in clothing, extra food, 2nd full hammock set up (no insulation).
I leave in the car for "Just in case": 2 MREs, about 4 more days food, a fleece blanket or two, 3rd Hammock set up. Plus my going home clothing, but that is along on almost every hike.
To almost every other hang I bring a spare set up & UQ, but it stays in the car 90% of the time.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

For cold-weather hiking I'm more likely to use down for layering at camp (jacket and pants). For cold-weather camping I'm more likely to use polarfleece and wool. Some crossover on both depending on the trip and temps, but you get the idea.
