Columbia is promoting their new Omni-Heat products which have silver 'dots' in the inside of the garments to act like a thermal blanket that breaths.

They claim it makes said garment 20% warmer.

I'm a bit dubious of the 20% number but it sounds plausible it would make the item somewhat warmer. I am a bit curious as to why we haven't seen an aluminized finish or layer in pads in particular if it really works.

In any event I thought I'd throw this out there.
I'm thinking something like a mesh laundry bag to use as a stencil plus spray on adhesive and silver glitter might make a poor mans Omni-Heat to be added to whatever. You'd probably want a shell on over the glitter unless you want to look like Lady Gaga after using the item but I'm thinking it might do it..... if the real thing works to begin with anyway.

So what do you guys think?

Does anyone have one of the Columbia products in question?
Do you think its any warmer?
What are the actual dot sizes?

Any ideas on how we can setup a simple test to see if this idea holds water?

Maybe we can bedazzle the inside of a disposable bowl or something, add hot water and see if its any warmer than a control bowl after X amount of time.

Pizazz, coming soon to a hammock near you.... or not.
