EMBRACE THE SUCK
Interesting you should mention that. Been looking for a cheap underquilt solution for my hennessy ultralite zip. Bought one of these last year after xmas for like $15. I noticed it had hollow channels running around the entire border. Just ran some shock cord through all the channels, added some cord locks and BAM! instant underquilt. I'm 5'9", and was able to cover from shoulders to feet barely. Had it at 51F last night and was warm and fuzzy all night. As for the loft, throw it in the dryer with some tennis balls. Couple inches of loft at least. Could also put a down jacket in and cinch it up tighter.
Hey I just came across this item. Any further thoughts? On sale right now for $35. Appears to match the photos posted by Lonely Raven. At the price I am tempted.
I frequent the EB outlet store in Columbus, last week I saw them for $20. Great for indoors but if you're thinking DIY, the shell isn't that light and the down is pretty sparce.
Although I did have one in the car on a camping trip out west in 2005, it dipped below freezing a couple of nights and I threw it over my sleeping bag and it saved me for sure.
I picked up a couple of these a while back for around $30 ea - was thinking about using a couple of them for an UQ. Ultimately I was deterrred by the total weight (although I guess it might be comparable to a PLUQ).
Loft is around .75- 1", and they were flat as a sheet when pulled out of the stuffsack. It took mine a couple of days and a trip through the dryer w/ a tennis ball to puff up a bit. Not a bad little throw.
