Hi Beep,

Please bump me to the "not equipped for dead of winter hanging" list. I am also overbooked in that weekend for work. (Evidently system go-live dates are not concerned about winter recreation!)

I got a one-night hang in last Friday, temps down to 28* and wet snow. I stayed warm because I borrowed an UQ from a "well-known-on-this-forum-fellow-hanger-who-shall-remain-anonymous". However, it confirmed for me that I really don't have the gear to hang in the deep cold yet.

I'm interestedly following this thread, though!

Oh, fine- it was Shug. He lent me his Frankenquilt, which is frankly undeserving of such an ugly name. That UQ is a functional thing of beauty!

That is where I am (granted I'm a southerner but still), I know I'm not even close gear wise for it, hell not even sure what all I would need to go that cold or I'd be tempted to come play in the cold.

I will be starting a new job soon and will be requesting the time off up front, so I am confirming my attendance.


I'm thinking about rolling out the clark for this expedition and using the pocket quilts which are all 800 fill down (i think, hope) and my winter full length incubator with weather shield. Topped with a JRB winter tarp. I will definitely be doing a field test probably three weeks prior to the trip just to make sure I'm covered. We definitely get our fair share of cold weather here in Iowa.
