Fourdog reminded me of the book "Snow Walkers Companion" by Garrett and Alexandra Conover. This book may be the best single thing I've read about winter travel, gear, clothing, etc.
If you're thinking about the Minnesota Frozen Butt Hang, you SHOULD read this classic.

Hey Beep. Sorry I couldn't make it to the symposium. Work and to many things on the get ready for winter list. Count me in for the winter hang.
Unfortunately that's just too darn cold for me. I plan to do a winter hang or two again this year but not in temps that cold!For me 15F is about as cold as I'm comfortable going.

Interest noted. It's still early (outdoor water is still liquid)!! In a few more days, I'll start compiling a list of those who are interested based on posts in this thread.
FWIW, I actually dug out my Dana Design Astralplane pack last weekend. That is a BIG BIG pack, about 110 liters capacity IIRC. Heck, the pack by itself weighs over 8 pounds! It sure is comfortable, though, and works great to swallow winter loads.
