    Ridge line

    Hello all,

First time caller, long time listener..

Just recieved a WB Blackbird and have a question with the ridge line. I see in the introduction video that the hammock has 2 ridge lines, mine only has one under the bug netting. After setting up the hammock I have no slack in the line while laying in the hammock.

Do I need to add another line? (I do not have a tarp.)

    Thanks in advance,

    Tim

I think if you saw two lines in the video, the second one was for a tarp, and completely separate from the hammock.

The hammock should only have one ridgeline, and if it's tight, you need to adjust that by either raising the height of the tree straps, and/or loosening up your woopies/straps.

Also, make sure you are centered between the two trees. That was my biggest problem since the trees I was hanging on were on a hill...I was too close to one and it made that end of the hammock pull much tighter than the other end (which wasn't comfortable).

Practice, practice, practice. I set my hammock up and took it back down at least once a day for a week. I can almost get the hang perfect in the dark now.

    Forgot to add: Welcome!

My WBBB has only one ridgeline. Not sure what video you watched but the second was (as mentioned ) probably a tarp line. Some folk (I learned recently here) add a foot line for sitting in the hammock (place to put your feet outside). Tight ridgeline and don't know what to do? Join the club...

When you get it right the hammock feels like a warm hug. With the ridgeline too tight my rig felt too short and constricted. When I spit balled it to the correct angle (several trips in and out to adjust) it just felt like nap time...Mrs. Law Dawg cut that short though.

Hi mega82 and welcome to the forum from ABQ--good to have another NM hanger here. I just received my WBBB and it only comes with the one ridge line inside the netting. Getting the tension right on the structural ridgeline took me a few tries setting it up. The trick for me was to leave just a little slack before getting in, and then judging if you have the tension right after you get in. Brandon's video gives you a good idea of what the tension should be after you are in the hammock. As LonelyRaven said--adjusting the height of the tree straps and adjusting the sag of the hammock at both ends will help you adjust the ridgeline tension.

The WBBB comes with a set length, 101" I think, so you may want to play with the length a few inches either way, depending on your height/weight, until the ridge line length matches your comfort zone. Do that, though, after trying to get it right playing around with height/ length of end straps.

The BB comes with one ridge line. Takes some practice getting the hammock set correctly for your comfort. What is comfortable for me may not be for you so practice setting your ridge line to different tensions (how tight it is) and how it effects your laying in the hammock. For me, I know I have it right when I get in the hammock and I can grab the ridge line and bend it up.

finding the sweet spot takes a little time at first, just move around alot and realize you're supposed to be laying diagonal, youu should eventually find your sweet spot

Since the hammock wizard is here; would an adjustable ridgeline be worth a consider? I'm assuming the WBBB ridgeline is set at a length (from the "factory") for your average height hanger. Would us well over 6' types benifit from a longer one?
