    Knot question?

I have built a DIY Hammock stand. (Will get pics when I am confident in the set-up). Basically it's 2- 2x4x8's standing at about 60deg angle. 2 ropes from the top of the 2x4's down to stakes. A ridge line between the 2x4s. I tied the rope (3/8") to the top of the 2x4 with two half hitches, no problems. The bottoms I looped through the eye in the stakes and tied onto itself using a taut line hitch. When I put weight on the hammock, one of the taut line hitches slipped. I retighted the hitch, along with the rest and it held. My question, is there a better knot for this, I need to be able to slide/adjust the tension on the rope, but not have it slip under load. Can I just tie a half hitch below the taut line, to lock it?

I've had good experiences tying 2 tautline hitches, one behind the other, to help things hold.
Another knot that might serve well would be a trucker's hitch. Adjustable, but when you tie it off, it won't go anywhere.

    Hope it works!

Most people don't tie a Taught-Line Hitch correctly, are you tying it like it is shown here:

with the second round turned up OVER the first round?

If so, and it is still slipping, I would suggest adding a couple of rounds to increase friction or tying a slip and grip hitch like the Prusik or the Klemheist

What kind of rope did you tie the taut line hitch in?

You should use a Clove hitch to the post.

For the other end, I'd use a trucker's hitch like acercanto suggested, you get some leverage when tightening it down, and it's dead simple...
