I have that fly and really like it. It is large and provides lots of protection. I mostly kayak camp so weight is not much of an issue.

The Hennessy Hex tarp is a pretty good tarp value. My wife and son use this tarp and sometimes I take it when going solo and not concerned about weight. It provides plenty of cover for any hammock I have ever seen.

It is not cat cut but I have never had a difficulty getting a good taut pitch (i do use line tensioners)

I mentioned weight - I have the heavier 70D PU- coated at 25 oz. and at $59.00 it's a good value.

The 30D Silnylon is only 19 oz so you save 6 oz but pay $129.00 and they are currently on backorder. If that's worth the extra $70.00 and backorder wait then go for it.

    Look at Chinook

    Indy

Take a look at the Chinook Tarps from here.

    http://www.greatadventure.ca/00cart/...s/prodList.asp

They have 3 in PU coated ripstop polyester. The 12'x9'6" tarp is a popular low cost item. It is cat cut on each edge, so it doesn't flap in the wind. It is on the heavy side. They also have a larger 14'x12' and a 9'6"x9'6" diamond tarp too.

    They are currently in stock.

There is also the MEC Silicone Scout tarp as well. It's $64.00

    Cheers

    Brian

I'm taking a road trip to Ft Collins tomorrow to see Brandon and get myself a new Superfly!

I know everyone is different and each has their own preferences so no one can say there's ONE correct answer. Everyone has to decide what their need for a specific piece of gear is for differing circumstances. However....that being said....the way my mind works is....I would rather buy one piece of equipment that muti-tasks that I can make work in different situations than buy several pieces of gear and have clutter and spend a lot of money I could use for other things. I'm choosing the SF because with it I can have complete shelter by closing the doors or simply throw half of it over the ridge line if I want more exposure. Best of both worlds. I'm also looking at getting a UQ and want to get a full length one cause it too is versatile. I'm prepared if the weather turns really nasty and I'm also not carrying extra items like a foot pad,ect.ect. to stay warm.

One last thought....when it comes to bigger ticket items and gear I choose QUALITY regardless of price over cheaper stuff cause in the long run quality will last longer (as well as be more satisfying) and I won't be losing money by having to buy the same things over and over when the cheaper items wear out.

    Just my two cents.....

You might also take a look at the Claytor tarps:

    Small Rainfly - 7'6"x10' [17oz, $50]
    Diamond Rainfly (scroll down) - 13'x10', 98.4" on each side [21oz, $50]

They're reasonably priced, seem to have good coverage, and the weight isn't as bad a some of the other tarps you'll find in that price range. Haven't seen or used one personally, just something I looked at when I was tarp shopping.

I have the HH Silnylon Hex Tarp, and I am quite happy with it. Sets up quickly, easy to get taught, and provides a lot of coverage. I have weathered a few nasty thunderstorms under it, and been very pleased.

if your looking for a cheap DIY option, possibly consider ordering materials from Sclittlefield (Scott) his website below

    http://backwoodsdaydreamer.webs.com/

I got one of his BWWD and love it, he no longer makes tarps but is currently just selling materials. Good luck
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I got the Kelty 12X12 and now want something a bit smaller to go with it. For me weight is not a big issue as I am not packing it on my back. What is your intended use and weight issues? Might want to consider Arrowhead Equipment's new tarp offerings. Paul has these priced well.
