    Overnight Hang Testing gear !

Well I left the house at 4:30 pm to head to the families 12 acres along the redbank creek weather was windy gust 15 mph and temp 45 low to be around freezing overnight with a chance of drizzle. arrived at my site at roughly 5;15 pm and was wet up by 6. fired up the DIY Bushbuddy stove and after some time fusing with it had my dinner tortellini in meat sauce yum. light the tea lantern and relaxed in the Warbonnet Traveler with the DIY 3/4 UQ made by Greenles paul And covering me was a 20 deg montbell 650 down superstrech sleeping bag as a TQ. and surrounded by a warbonnet surperfly with doors.

Won't let me embed for some reason tried 10 times

    Findings:
    1. lower tarp had over foot off ground let wind in .

    2. Can get down to 32 degrees if dressed right and be fairly comfortable.
(was wearing poly long underwear with nylon hiking pant, nylon/poly long sleeve wicking shirt, Fleece top fleece bacalov and fleece hat.)

    3. Need more and larger air holes in DIY Bushbuddy stove.

    4. When they say chance of drizzle plan on showers .

    5. How much I really like hammock camping

Still trying to decide on winter crowsnest or winter incubator which brings up question . Who all uses compression sacks right now I just line my ULA Catalyst with plastic trash compacter bag and stuff my sleeping bag down and TQ on top to save room seeing the size of winter gear will I be a whole lot better off compressing my UQ and Bags

I've heard a few times that using compression bags on down could damage it and shorten the lifespan and lofting capability. I'm not an expert, that is just what I've heard a few times now.
oldgringo's reply to my worrying about owning extra hammocks:

How many pairs of underwear do you own? Do you refer to them as "extras", simply because you're not wearing all of them as we speak?

For just while backpacking I can't understand why it would hurt I hang it from the rafters loose when I get home .

In order to hurt the down it was my understanding that it would have to be compressed very tightly to damage the clusters, also keeping it compressed in any manner for a long period of time can damage the clusters! All this is going off of the notion that you are using a compression sack and not a stuff sack, I use a dry bag for my quilts when backpacking and stuff them both in one, I stuff it only to the size that I need to get it in the bottom of my pack sideways! So far I have not had any problems with my stuff!
There was a very long write up on BPL with a lot of discussion on this very thing, one person got a reply from Montbell! If I can find it I will post a link????

I went through a similar decision process last month and decided on the 3-Season Crowsnest, with a Winter Incubater in the future. If I'm going to be in some serious cold, I'll take the extra ounces so that I'm completely covered and warm. But, in the warmer temperatures, extra clothing and the small section of Evazote I carry is plenty for my feet.

I use a compression sack for my extra clothing, and it makes a good pillow when loosened up. However, compressing the Burrow and Crowsnest squeezed a few feathers out, so I would advise you not to compress them. Actually, the compression sacks create dead space between them, so using multiple compression sacks has been counterproductive for me. I use the one and let everything fill in around it.
