While on the subject of Tree Huggers, is it O.K. to attatch to the tree by 1. passing tree hugger around tree, 2. passing one end through the loop in the other end (slip knot fashion), and 3. attaching hammock to the single loop that is not involved in the slip knot at the tree? Man, it's hard to make sense trying to describe a knot in words.

Sure, that's fine. It's just hard to adjust to different distances between trees without some sort of buckle or a way of taking up slack...

Thanks. I'll change to a strap and buckle system, but I need to sort out the thousands of posts that have been made on that subject... unless someone has the short and sweet answer as to what and how to do it without my having to sort it all out. DTE

You can also use a buckle and/or cleat arrangement, which allows you to quickly tie/adjust line to webbing.

Lets you use less webbing and tie up or adjust very quickly.

yes, that is actually the best way to do it, that way it is cinched tight around the tree, and cannot slide down the bark, which hurts the tree and causes you to have to re adjust.

if he's using tree huggers, he must also be using line. it would adjustable by tying the line to the huggers. slack can be taken out of the line before tying the knot.

as for adjusting the huggers, larks head the tree with the hugger and then wrap the excess backward around the tree once is usually enough. by moving the larks head one way or the other, you have even more adjustment.

if it's a sapling, you can double the hugger up, and stick the single loop formed by the middle of the hugger through the other 2.

as for the knot a single or double exploding sheetbend is superior.

you can also make hardware to replace the knot, and make the line more adjustable. kinda like webbing buckles.

i think anders j's anchor buckle was pretty great. adjust the line or the webbing with one piece.

That's the one I copied. Andersj should take a CAD file to the CNC place, laser-engrave "HF" on them, anodize, and retire.
