He should of had the MSR Needle stakes in his review. These are my favorites for firm soil. Compact, hold well and .33 oz per stake.

I have some of these .... MSR and knock-offs.... but only use them at home ...... I always end up bleeding pulling out the ones with no line.

I prefer my "bamboo chopstick stakes" at 9" long, 3 grams each with a total weight of 24 grams for eight. FREE with a "to go" order (I always ask for an extra set), use a fork and save both sets of chopsticks. They're shape is oblong, so they hold better than spikes and have some flex to them which also aids in "pull-out" prevention.

Great idea. I eat Chinese often. I think they should weigh less than what you indicated?

Yeah, I corrected it, they're actually 3 grams each. Don't know what I was thinking.

I've camped in windy areas a few too many times and won't use lightweight stakes and risk a break or not holding in the ground.

Thanks for posting Arson. I have a collection of various stakes myself. I'm torn between the GroundHogs, and Easton aluminum stakes. The MSR ones are sturdier to be sure, but overkill in softer soil, and the Easton are easier to put in by hand (pushing) and don't get dirt sticking in the crevice. I think they are lighter too, but haven't done a direct weigh-off. So typically if I know where I'm going and the Easton stakes will do, they're the ones that come. Into the great unknown...GroundHogs.

On the chopsticks idea, for the guy who has everything....Titanium ChopSticks!!
Dual use as stakes, what's not to like?

(ah, maybe the $65/pair price???)
