I love those things there cheap, big, and water proof. I've been using them in my kayak's hold for a couple years now. Granted big dry bags aren't that expensive any more but three years ago when I bought four of those things for like five bucks I thought it was seriously cool.
Yeah, I took some on a canoe trip last summer and they worked great. I would imagine that it would be the same kayaking. I like being able to see what all is in there, makes things easier to find.

Thanks for the input. I'll let y'all know how this quandry gets resolved. But, now I've got more ideas and choices than when I started. What to do, what to do?
I personally wouldn't store my gear in a non-breathable bag. Just my style
Most storage bags that come with high-end sleeping bags are mesh or cotton. Wonder why that is...

I would bet that most high end sleeping bags would be greatly offended to be stored in a non-temperature controlled, possibly humid environment. They might even throw a huge snit-fit the next time you try to use them.
I bet in DougTheElder's circumstances, his quilts would RATHER be stored in a non-breathable bag... to keep the bugs out of them and such.

O.K.!!!!! The jury has unanamously voted that I shall not keep my R.M.Sniveller and Katahdin quilts in a non-heated, non-cooled, humid environment. I appreciate everyone's concern for my quilts well-being. I was concerned that the small amount of compression that may occur putting them even loosely into large bags may be even a tiny bit damaging. My shed is really the only place where I can hang them and keep all of my gear in one place, but the concensus (including a vote from Jack at JRB) is that the humidity and temp extremes would be too much of a liability. Even though my shed is really pretty tight and the bugs and rodents are not so much the concern, many of you know (NCPatrick-Winston-Salem in only a little north of me) Southern humidity is quite another issue. So...it's into a bag and onto the top shelf of my closet they go...unless y'all have a problem with that!
temperature will have much less effect (if any) on the quilt compared to being stuffed in a bag. an airtight bag with a desicant inside big enough to losely fit the quilt inside would be ideal.
