    WBBB vs HH Expedition

Hi all. I am currently using a Hennessy Expedition and am considering switching to the Warbonnet BlackBird. What I am wondering is what are the pros and cons of switching. What does the Blackbird have that the expedition doesn't and vice-versa? I just want to make sure that the switch is worth it. Thanks.

I have both hammocks and the WBBB is a much larger and to me more confortable hammock. The materials are different too. The Hennessy is a lot heavier and is a single bottom. The WBBB I have is a double bottom and that is a nice place to put 1/16” pad to help with the insulation.
    WBBB
    • Longer hammock requires a little longer tarp
    • Wider requires more attention to the UQ and setup (which I am learning quickly)
    • Has a shelf for gear storage instead of using the ridge line
    Expedition
    • Smaller more compact design. Can get away with using a little bit smaller tarp.
    • Gear hung on the ridge line in the mesh pockets
    • Easier to cover with the UQ that I have because of the size

They each have their quirks but the WBBB is by far the better hammock in my opinion. The main reason is I like to move around and I feel like I can do that more in the larger hammock. Hope this helps.

That was the first hammock video I ever watched and resulted in me buying a BlackBird. While I now own several hammocks, the BB is my go to hammock for a good night time sleep. I am a big guy at 6ft2 and 275lbs and I find I have lots of room in my BB and love the shelf, built in bug net and double layer for inserting a pad.

I too have both the HH Expedition and the WBBB. I love my WBBB,it is roomy, I can lay on my right side if I want to. I just melt into it. On the other hand, I feel claustrophobic in the HH, can't get comfortable and wish I'd have bought the WBBB to begin with. I hope to never sleep in the HH again. I'm saving for my daughter who is fairly petite and may like it. If not, it will be up for sale here by next summer. I definitely won't be using it.

I guess I have an opinion on this topic.

I absolutely love my HH exped Asym. But I'm a small guy at 5'8" and 180lbs. Plenty of room, I've even crashed with my pack and stuff in it with me and slept better than I do at home. But the WBBB is #1 on the forums for a reason. But when I got my hammocks, Warbonnet was not even being thought of. I don't find a need to upgrade at all.

If I were just getting started and wasn't invested in the Hennessy's for so long, I would go WBBB. But on a side note, my Hennessy Hammocks are over 5 years old, and still in terrific shape.

I have yet to figure out why that is. Don't get me wrong I have a WBBB and just ordered a WB tarp and Yeti to go with it but I also have two Clarks and two HH's and there are advantages to each even when it comes to comfort. WBBB are nice hammocks but I have yet to understand the rage here.

It seems a lot of people who didn't like the Expedition found themselves much more comfortable in the larger Explorer. I have both and at 6'2" the Expedition is only around as a lender.

I don't own a Blackbird but have made DIY hammocks that have the same lay. I don't find a lot of difference in comfort between the BB and Explorer. Still the BB has some nice features like the shelf and a double layer option for those who use pads instead of under quilts. Now that HH are available in side zip the two brands are more comparable.
